1 Ariel Atom (page 1 of 25)
|
A nutty open-bodied, low-slung, bare-bones, road-legal track car with a phenomenal power-to-weight ratio. For the hardcore only, as it doesn't get much rawer than this. Launched in 2000, the Atom's essentially a high-powered engine in a tubular steel frame with little else bar seats, pedals, a steering wheel and a six-speed close-ratio gearbox. The engine is currently the Honda Civic Type R's 220bhp four, with a 300bhp supercharged option, and this baby weighs just 456kg. Somerset-based Ariel, by the way, dates back to 1898, and made Brooklands racers as well as the motorbikes for which it's better known.
