Andrew Winter, About Andrew Winter

Andrew started as a trainee estate agent in Bristol in 1984, then spent about five years in The Cotswolds selling 'cottages, barns and stuff up muddy tracks'.

He spent a few years in Central London selling apartments and townhouses, and for around eight years was a partner in the exciting Canary Wharf area of London, involved with property investments, property management, sales and new developments - even furnishing homes for clients.

Andrew admits he is obsessed with houses and over the last 20 years reckons he has seen every sort of buyer and seller, and helped to sell every type of property.

During this time he also found time to research and present Selling Houses for Channel 4. Over the last five years, the programme has aired all over the world.

  1. Currently at home and channel flicking i have been watching the Selling Houses reruns everyday. I just wanted to say, absolutely fantastic show, my favourite of all the homes programmes due to its sheer honesty. can't wait for a new series. More and more of the same please. (With Andrew Winter of course, so many programmes are spoilt by trying to rerun the same format with a different presenter, it never works)

  2. Hi Kelly First question: do you really have to sell at the moment? Obviously, there are very few buyers around, which would help explain your situation. Secondly, I don't think that a dozen viewings over 18 months is very much - so there's either something wrong with the house and/or the way it's being marketed and/or the price you have it on at. What's been the feedback from the viewings that you did have? Did people say it was wrongly priced? Did it need a good clean and polish? Was the location bad? If feedback is generally something you can act on, then do it to get a sale (ie, redecorate, declutter, present it at its best). If it's the location that's putting people off, there's not alot you can do, save looking at the price. If something is priced right, you'll always find someone to buy it - assuming there are any buyers out in your area at the mo'. I suggest you visit our buying and selling section and go through it thoroughly to get all the info you need: http://www.channel4.com/4homes/buying-selling/. Then, I'd get your current agent round and have a heart to heart with them. Ask them why they think it isn't selling. Push them to get it in the window, in the newspaper, on their website prominently. Check the details. Are the pictures old or out of date? Sometimes, it's worth taking a house that's been on the market that long off, giving it a quick revamp and putting it back on. That way the agent can market it as 'new to the market' and it will give them new things to say... Good luck
