Clinton: I’ve run for president – but never been a granny
With two years before the presidential election, Hillary Clinton is coy about whether she will run. But the ex-first lady tells all about US policy on Putin: “If he will talk to us, we talk to him.”
Speculation about whether she will run for president has been fuelled by the publication of Ms Clinton’s new book, Hard Choices, which covers her time as US secretary of state.
She spoke to Jon Snow about current tensions between Israel and Palestine, over the murder of three Israeli teens, and in Iraq, and said the international community had a responsibility to “support both sides”.
On Russia, and working with President Putin, Ms Clinton insisted that the US cooperated fully when it came to issues of international terrorism, but added: “We believe that Russia should be building a modern economy, a diversified economy, and a democracy that will fulfill the aspirations of the Russian people and make Russia great in the future.
“What Putin apparently believes is that Russia’s greatness is in the past, and therefore it must be regained be dominating and intimidating and influencing its neighbours.”
