Manchester murder suspect Cregan remanded in custody
Dale Cregan, who is charged with the murders of two police officers in a gun and grenade attack in Greater Manchester, is remanded in custody until Monday.
Cregan appeared at Manchester magistrates’ court today on four murder charges and four attempted murder charges. He will next appear at Manchester crown court on Monday.
Dressed in a dark blue sweatshirt, and having grown a beard, the 29-year-old was flanked by four police officers as he was brought into the dock.
Cregan is charged with the murders of PCs Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone, who died following a bogus burglary call in Hattersley on Tuesday.
Cregan is also accused of killing Mark Short at the Cotton Tree Inn in Droylsden, Tameside, on 25 May and his father David in an attack at his home in Clayton, Manchester, on 10 August.
Cregan, 29, also faces four charges of attempted murder, three in relation to the shooting in the Cotton Tree Inn.
David Short, 46, who was found at his home in Folkestone Road East on 10 August after police were called there following reports of gunshots.
Relatives of the Short family were present at the two-minute hearing.
Cregan appeared at Manchester magistrates’ court at 10am. A large police presence was dispatched to the court beforehand (pictured, above).
Greater Manchester Police said they had been given more time to question a 28-year-old man who has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder in relation to PC Bone and PC Hughes. This is due to expire at 9.15am on Saturday.
