The actor Paul Walker, best known for his role in the Fast & Furious film series, was a passenger in a friend’s Ferrari which crashed in southern California on Saturday.
Walker, 40, was attending an event for his charity Reach Out Worldwide.
A message on his Facebook page read: “It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident.
“He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news.”
Mr Walker starred in five of the six Fast & Furious films, which centred on illegal street racing and heists. Mr Walker was working on the seventh film in the series.
His co-star in several of the films, Vin Diesel, said on his Instagram page: “Brother I will miss you very much. I am absolutely speechless. Heaven has gained a new Angel. Rest in Peace.”
