Two women from the UK, Michaella McCollum Connolly and Melissa Reid, are sentenced to six years and eight months after pleading guilty to cocaine smuggling.
The two women, who pleaded guilty to drug charges, were sentenced at a court in Peru’s capital, Lima.
The pair had agreed to plead guilty to smuggling cocaine, with the prospect of reduced sentencing to six years and eight months.
The verdicts were handed down in a closed court.
Connolly and Reid were arrested at Lima airport on 6 August on their way to Spain carrying 24 pounds of cocaine concealed inside food packets.
