Tory Chief Whip says rape and sexual assault claims against MP taken ‘very seriously’

The Conservative Party has insisted that it is taking allegations of rape and sexual assault against a senior MP very seriously.

The party has faced calls to suspend the unnamed MP who was arrested on Saturday after police received allegations of sexual offences.

He was later released on bail until mid-August.
