Three New York couples tied the knot in a public ceremony in Times Square this morning, in a grand gesture marking the Royal nuptials.
While early birds watching the ceremony in Piedmont Park in Atlanta could go shopping for wedding dresses and other nuptial necessities at a pop-up wedding fare this morning, three couples in New York went the whole hog and got hitched in a public ceremony.
The three couples paid their respects to the Royal wedding by tying the knot on a stage organised by cable TV station TLC in Times Square, New York, in the early hours of the morning.
One of the grooms, Marc Landry, said: “We’re both doing the same thing. We’re both marrying the people that we love the most so, that’s really all that’s important. For them, for us, for the other two couples here today I mean, that’s the bottom line.”
His bride, Linday, said: “It’s such a milestone, I mean, this is the wedding of the century. And just to be able to share, I wouldn’t even say share, but to be able to have taken part on the same day is just awesome. Absolutely amazing and very grateful.”
The weddings took place half an hour after the Royal ceremony in Westminster Abbey, and were cheered on by the applause of a live audience.

Elsewhere in the city, 200 people gathered to watch the wedding over a fry-up breakfast in a restaurant bedecked with the Union Jack flag in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village.
In Brooklyn, crowds dressed in tiaras and frilly hats watched the ceremony on a giant screen.
There were also afternoon teas and street parties to mark the event.
