Two found dead at Essex hotel swimming pool

Police are investigating the unexplained deaths of two people found at a hotel swimming pool in Essex yesterday.

A man in his thirties and a woman in her twenties were found in the water at Down Hall Country House Hotel in Hatfield Heath, Essex.

The pair, believed to be from London, were discovered at about 7.35pm last night. Hotel and ambulance crews tried to revive them but they were later pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesman said: “Officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are investigating and are treating the deaths as unexplained at this stage.”

Police have confirmed that post-mortem examinations are to be carried out tomorrow and further details may be revealed at a press conference planned for later today.

The luxury hotel’s website boasts of being “one of England’s most established country house hotels”. The venue was hosting birthday parties, weddings and christenings this weekend.
