Channel 4’s hit prison series returns, with Nina Sosanya (His Dark Materials, Good Omens, W1A) once again leading the cast as Leigh Henry, senior prison officer in charge of C Wing at Long Marsh Prison. After the tragic events of the series one finale, our team of embattled prison officers are determined to make a fresh start.  But as those behind the cell doors of C Wing know only too well, moving on isn’t always simple.  With changes at the very top and fresh faces on the wing, Leigh’s new bond with Rose (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell – Derry Girls) - and the secrets they share - will be tested to the limit.

As the whole team struggles to make a difference to the complicated lives in their care, rumours of an undercover policeman on the wing threatens order at Long Marsh, and the pressure is on Leigh to identify him before his fellow inmates do – because as the new Governor reminds her, another death on C Wing would mean the end of C wing - and Leigh’s team. But which of the new arrivals on C Wing could it be?

Rose is determined to put her past mistakes behind her and make a real go of it as a prison officer. She tries to cut ties with her old gang contact, Louis Costa, but he has other ideas – if he’s to be believed, Rose is being held responsible by the gang for the botched gun smuggling operation, and he is the only one who can protect her. But as she and Louis grow closer, can she really trust him? When a notorious double murderer arrives on the wing, with apparent links to Costa, it’s certainly clear that Rose’s problems are far from over. Meanwhile, relations between Jackie and Gary are tense now that their affair is over. Gary’s clearly not coping and as ever, he’s taking it out on the prisoners – but will he go too far this time? Elsewhere in the team, Ali’s hiding a secret in his personal life, and Don is still doing his best to avoid work - and any personal involvement with colleagues and inmates. So when Don discovers what’s really going on with Ali, will he step up to help him?

Leigh might have turned over a new leaf by starting to trust her team, and even entertaining a relationship outside of work. But when she discovers the identity of the undercover police officer and his mission is revealed, Leigh and Rose are drawn into a criminal plot which could end both their careers, and perhaps even their lives.
