21,000 football fans gather at Wembley for UK government’s largest trial event since lockdown

England is pushing ahead with lifting lockdown restrictions, despite warnings that the Indian Covid variant could lead to a significant surge in infections.

A number of planned pilot events, aimed at ensuring a safe path back to mass participation sport, took place today – including allowing more than 20,000 fans into this evening’s FA Cup Final in Wembley.
