Accountability for racism in the deaths of Black people after police contact is ‘not fit for purpose’, says charity

A new report from the charity INQUEST concludes organisations that are supposed to deliver accountability, the police watchdog and the coroners system, are failing because they don’t address racial discrimination properly.

We have spoken to one woman whose brother died following contact with police in 2017.

The IOPC recently decided to reinvestigate his case, including whether race was a factor in his treatment.
