In Kabul, the clock continues to tick for those wanting to flee Afghanistan. There was no let-up in the chaos at the city’s airport as families at the gates begged soldiers for a space on the departing planes.
The United States said it remained “on pace” with evacuations, but defence sources here said the UK still had to airlift around 2,000 staff, including Afghan interpreters, and the evacuation window could close as early as tomorrow.
