Afghanistan: Fears schoolgirls will be first in line of fire after US withdrawal

The horror of this month’s bomb attack on a girls’ school in Kabul is still being felt across Afghanistan.

Violence in the region has intensified since the US announced it would withdraw its forces entirely by September 11 – a delicate security situation made all the more precarious by the uncertainty of peace talks between the Afghan government, the US and the Taliban, which are now in jeopardy.
