Afghanistan: Taliban make more gains as president appeals to warlords for help

Nine of Afghanistan’s 34 provincial capitals have now fallen into Taliban hands, with militants taking control over three more in the past 24 hours.

The rapid gains have heaped more pressure on Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani, as he travelled to Mazar-i-Sharif, the biggest city in the country’s north, to rally old warlords to assist the fightback.
