A senior Taliban official in Afghanistan has warned that extreme punishments like executions will resume in the country, claiming it’s “necessary for security”.

At the same time, the United Nations is warning that Afghanistan is on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe, with health services already close to collapse and medicines and other essential supplies fast running out.
