Alex Salmond: Tributes to the politician’s ‘huge contribution’ to Scotland

Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney says Alex Salmond “left a fundamental footprint on Scottish politics”.

The former SNP leader died of a suspected heart attack during lunch at a conference in North Macedonia yesterday.

His death robs Scotland of one of its biggest champions for independence.

It also leaves the Alba Party founded by Mr Salmond, facing an uncertain future.
