Army stand down as Met firearms officers return to duty

Scores of Metropolitan police officers have agreed to return to firearms duty – as the force said it would discuss concerns over their legal powers.

The SAS had been put on standby to provide counter terrorism cover, when a number of firearms officers handed back their licences – after one of their colleagues was charged with the murder of Chris Kaba, who was shot in September last year.

But the Met said tonight that they no longer needed “external assistance”.
