CIA plans 'Facebook for spooks'
Updated on 22 August 2007
Intelligence agencies in the US are developing A-Space, a social-networking site based on Facebook and MySpace.
The site will be launched in December, with bosses hoping it will allow spies from all 16 US security agencies to better combat terrorism by swapping notes.
Thomas Fingar, the deputy director of national intelligence for analysis, told the Financial Times that failure to prevent 9/11 was partly blamed on a lack of shared information.
Initially A-Space will be optional for agents, amid some concerns it could lead to sensitive information being leaked.
