Asda workers win Supreme Court equal pay battle

Social Affairs Editor and Presenter

Thousands of Asda shop floor workers can continue their fight for equal pay after winning a key legal victory at the Supreme Court. The judges upheld a ruling which said that lower-paid store workers, who are mostly women, could compare themselves with higher paid distribution warehouse staff, most of whom are men.

Unions have urged the supermarket giant to pay staff “what they are worth”, although Asda said it would be many years before the complex case is finally settled.
