We talk to the author Tayari Jones, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, whose latest novel, An American Marriage, is shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for fiction.
It explores what it is to be middle-class, African-American and living in the Deep South, and we began by asking what inspired her to write the book.
