Bill Roache charged with five indecent assault offences

The actor better known as Ken Barlow on Coronation Street is charged with historic offences of indecent assault dating back to the 1960s.

Bill Roache charged with five historic offences of indecent assault.

The soap’s longest-serving star was arrested on Thursday morning after attending a local police station by appointment.

Roache, 81, was then charged with five historic offences of indecent assault involving girls aged between 12 and 16 between 1965 and 1968.

A Lancashire Constabulary spokesperson said the offences are alleged to have been committed in the Manchester area and to involve four females. No further details have been released.

In May he was charged with two counts of rape of a 15-year-old in 1967.

On Friday 7 June, the actor’s lawyer said Mr Roache is looking forward to standing before a jury to “vigorously protest his innocence” of “deeply upsetting” sex charges.
