Boris Johnson admits ‘total mistake’ in handling of Paterson row

Boris Johnson couldn’t escape the questions on sleaze today.

First at a heated Prime Minister’s Questions. Then at a grilling in front of the cameras by the Commons Liaison Committee. And finally behind closed doors at the 1922 Committee of Conservative backbenchers.

Throughout the day the prime minister has been pushed from all sides on parliamentary standards and from his own side on what second jobs they would still be allowed to do.
