Budget speech latest: Tax avoidance – the bottomless pit?

Tax Avoidance, it sometimes seems, is the gift that keeps on giving. Hey presto, another £1b will be conjured from this bottomless pit to cover to pay for the Lib Dem’s pet policy of raising the personal allowance threshold and paying for corporate tax giveaways.  If it went up with inflation quite a chunk of that rise would’ve come anyway. What the coalition has decided is that it had better not hit those close to the 40% tax band again as it did to pay for the first hike in the personal allowance. They are hurting quite enough as it is.
