Labour launches a manifesto it doesn’t expect anyone to read

There’s a whiff of Betjeman and Metro-land to the cover – let me take you to Retro-land!

Labour say that they “don’t expect anyone to read the manifesto” – dangerously honest that (print run only 2,500!) – but there’s a whiz-bang internet page that takes you through videos, deeper info etc that they hope will capture some voters’ attention and imagination.

And here is the manifesto on a key!

No surprises after the extensive overnight briefing. I have counted only a handful of mentions of “deficit” in a 100-page document… to adapt the Mario Cuomo saying, in this election political leaders will campaign in cheer, govern in pain.

Anyway, all kicks off in minute or two in this state of the art, soon to open £0.5bn Birmingham hospital.
