Lib Dems ‘tell Brown there’s no point hanging around’

Gordon Brown making a statement soon but it is not his resignation I am told. He will re-state the overnight position.

A very senior Lib Dem told us that an intermediary from No. 10 had contacted an intermediary from the Lib Dems to ask if there was any point hanging around and was told “no.”

Any such contact would’ve been done on a deniable basis and has been duly denied. I can only say it was a good source.
