Party leaders are being tested on their policies – and forget the niceties

How do you plan to restore faith in politics? Gordon Brown is in attack mode, no airy fairy niceness from him.

He attacks the others in every answer … nearly always gets “jobs” and “economy” in every section though I think he must’ve thought better of it in the answers of the Pope.

“No punishment is to great” for the MPs who are charged with expenses fiddling if they’re found guilty, Gordon Brown says – they’ll thank God he’s not wearing the wig.

David Cameron mentioned the “good society” which rather fell down the back of the sofa last week. Gordon Brown came back with how the people don’t want a DIY NHS.

Gordon Brown also wanted to talk about Tories’ IHT plans – I wonder if the viewers mark people down for ranging off the subject or don’t care. If they care they’ll like NC more than the other two by more very rough counting.

They’re all talking about “recalling” and “dismissing” MPs which would probably never happen. But it’s a grabby thought – it must’ve been focus-grouped very strongly.

Is £59 a week a reasonable pension? Gordon is very negative, attacking Lib Dem and Tory policy – David Cameron said it is “disgraceful” and his leaflets are full of “lies”.

I wonder if people believe a politician when they say “lies” in these times, whether they have the licence to use the term. Real ding dong – or “ping pong” as NC called it – between DC and GB over who is offering what to the elderly.

DC said there would be free prescriptions – GB said why isn’t it in the manifesto, and DC shook his head witheringly.

It looks in the cutaways as though there might be four large jugs are of water under each lectern … are Sky testing bladder strength as well?

Adam Boulton, looking smiling and relaxed, has referred to his “next gig” in Scotland and the questions as “rounds” not unlike a quiz show.

He is stretching the rules in a way the parties may not like – certainly not the Lib Dems when he mentioned to Nick Clegg that he was on the front page of the Telegraph this morning. I bet that got a phone call to the producer’s gallery.
