Will the Lib Dem election bubble burst?

Rather like the men with the tape measures who lay out the cutlery and glasses at state banquets the Lib Dems seem to have a staffer who makes sure that Vince Cable’s lectern is a critical two inches behind Nick Clegg’s.

The leader’s been taking shots at “greedy bankers” this morning. He’s getting asked what policies are non-negotiables and deal-breakers.

Mr Clegg keeps down-playing his surge… Asked if political bubbles can burst he gave a one word answer “yes.” Later he said “what goes up can go down.”

Imagine a US candidate who got a boost like the Lib Dems had and would be exploiting it like crazy.

You feel that the Lib Dems haven’t quite known what to do with this boon – not surprising but you can see how an election post mortem might go if they sink back dramatically.
