Formula One: not sport
If ever further proof were needed that Formula One motor racing is little more than a pile of (insert rude word of your choice at this point), then it is the fact that yet another raft of new regulations has had to be conjured to try and make the thing more competitive.
The organisers have accidentally proved that the “sport” is about engineering and nothing to do with human physical endeavour. The driver is only as good as the car beneath him.
Poor old Lewis Hamilton has found himself reduced by the lack of aerodynamic development of his McLaren. If he comes last, it will have little to do with his driving skills and much to do with his machine.
But it doesn’t end there. The fact that it takes a staggering 700 people to put out a car (devoid of all creature comforts) on the road, coupled with the fact that none of these machines appears to have contributed an iota to reducing carbon emissions or tackling global warming, make Saturday’s Australian grand prix a lose-lose event, whoever “wins”.
