I'd be terrible on my desert island

Sadly I am 5600 miles away as my Desert Island Discs goes out on Radio 4 (today at 11.15am)… I may manage to grab a bit online and don’t know if I’ll be back for the Friday edition. But it’s amazing how many unexpected people have been in touch about it. Even one of our most loyal Snowbloggers, Saltaire Sam, has referred to it.

Listen again here: Jon Snow on Desert Island Discs

Do I feel chuffed to be on it? I’m sorry to admit it, but I do. It’s the nicest recognition I think I’ve ever had. I was on Private Passions on Radio 3 a few years back and loved it. The music is the core of the thing, and they play so much of it that you get carried away and your guard is down when the music stops. But Michael Barclay is a gentle soul.
Kirsty is, like him well prepared, but less interested in the music choice than in exploring your life, and that can be a worry.

On my island, in truth I don’t think they really are my eight favourite gramophone records. I think they are the eight that thread through my life. So it’s an eclectic mix. As to the book… I will only say published in the 21st century. The luxury… wait and see.

I’d be terrible on my island, I don’t yet enjoy my own company enough. But I enjoyed this one. I fancy its somewhere between Reunion and Mauritius. or maybe Tahiti and Fiji.

I hope you’ll enjoy it after the sea rolls and the gulls emit their beguiling welcome.
