Register to vote now in the EU referendum. This is it.
If you only ever vote once, this is it. No vote in modern British history has been more important than the vote as to whether to leave or remain in the European Union.
Of course I hope you’ll vote in lots of other electoral moments – but this is not an election. This is a choice that will affect you, your children, your grandchildren, your parents and your grandparents. It will affect Britain, Europe and potentially the world.
Yes, just you. And your vote, can contribute to a decision that has enormous implications.
And here is the bad news, and the good, you can still register to vote on June 23, right now. By going to www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. BUT you must do it before midnight tonight, June 7. If you have a paper form you need to physically take it to the electoral services department at your local authority before they close today.
Just remember some people have died for the right to vote. I was in South Africa for the first ever democratic election for which so many in the black majority had fought, I was in Iran for the election three years ago that reopened the country to the world.
We live in a precious democracy whose vibrance can only be sustained if we all play our part. You are not voting for a party or a Government but for a question of how our affairs are to be arranged in the future – inside or outside the European Union.
So please, do it, register, before midnight tonight or if you already have registered you can still apply for your postal vote until 5pm tomorrow at www.aboutmyvote.co.uk or you can vote on the day.
Do it for all our tomorrows.
