Another mild week ahead
The week ahead looks like following on from last week, in that another mild spell of weather is on the cards. Temperatures will be in the range of 10-15C by day, with little chance of any frost at night.
Once again, a south westerly wind is blowing from the Azores, bringing a conveyor belt of warm air towards us. It’ll also bring a lot of moisture, so it’ll be quite cloudy at times with some light rain or drizzle – especially for western areas.
Central and eastern parts of the UK will be favoured for the best of any brightness or sunshine, with Tuesday seeing the highest temperatures of the week.
Across north east England and eastern Scotland on Tuesday, if the sun breaks through the cloud for any length of time, temperatures could rise to 16-17C.
This is of notable interest for Scotland because the February maximum temperature record for Scotland is 17.9C at Aberdeen on 22 February 1897.
There is a chance that this temperature record could be broken on Tuesday with a Foehn effect wind developing, but having had a closer look at the latest information, I have a feeling that it may fall short.
Elsewhere, even in the places that stay largely cloudy on Tuesday, temperatures will be in the range of 10-14C, which is around 5C above average for this time of year.
At the weekend, I had quite a few nice pictures on sent to me on Twitter showing the spring-like combination of warmth and sunshine that many places enjoyed.
The picture below from Linda Court was my favourite, taken at Ousel Valley Park in Milton Keynes.
Whilst this week has a mild theme, there are hints that winter may try to bite back into next week.
At the moment, the signal from the weather computer models is by no means clear or conclusive, but there are hints at something colder and more unsettled for the beginning of March.
This is not uncommon for March, as it tends to be a transitional month when quite a spectrum of weather can be experienced.
