No end in sight for stormy weather
There are still no signs of the weather settling down anytime soon, as a powerful jet stream continues to race across the Atlantic, spawning more deep areas of low pressure.
River flooding will become increasingly problematic this week, as rain seeps into rivers, causing them to rise further. The Environment Agency is most concerned about southern parts of England and the Midlands in the coming days, as well as the ongoing situation on the Somerset Levels.
The latest information suggests that up to Friday, another 20-40mm could fall widely across southern and western parts of the UK, with as much as 60mm over the hills and mountains.
It’ll also turn very windy again on Wednesday, with gusts as strong as 60-70mph for coastal areas.
In addition, it will also turn colder this week, with rain turning to snow at times over the hills and mountains, but possibly down to sea level in the north.
