When it comes to the NHS, the government has today pledged to meet the long-standing target of getting patients from GP referral to treatment in no more than 18 weeks for at least 92 per cent of non-urgent cases in England.

But the latest weekly figures show NHS England under pressure already, with hospital admissions for flu up 350 per cent on the same week last year.
