The family of a fugitive Ecuadorian drug kingpin have been arrested in Argentina and deported back to Ecuador – after his escape from jail sparked a wave of violence and riots across the Andean nation.

The country’s president declared war on organised crime gangs after Jose Adolfo Macias – known as Fito – escaped from prison earlier this month. But can the military really maintain order – and for how long?
