Chelsea play first home game since Abramovich sanctions – against Saudi-owned Newcastle

Chelsea football club hosted Newcastle, but the London club have been placed in a financial straitjacket after owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned for his links to Vladimir Putin.

Newcastle have also drawn criticism after a Saudi-backed take-over suddenly made the club one of the world’s richest.
