It is one of the remotest places on earth – rich in marine life and home to unique species of wildlife – but even the Galapagos islands have not escaped the impact of the pandemic.
Officials are rushing to vaccinate the population – in an effort to revive the islands’ multi-million pound tourism industry on which it so heavily depends.
And Chinese industrial fishing fleets have also been plundering the waters off the Galapagos coast – putting its fragile ecosystem under even further strain.
