I spoke to the filmmaker, artist and activist Bree Newsome Bass.
She made headlines five years ago when she scaled the flagpole of the South Carolina state house to remove the confederate flag in protest against the Charleston Church shooting – when a white gunman killed nine black Americans inside the church.
Bree Newsome Bass was arrested at the time, but eventually the flag was permanently removed.
I asked her if she believed if it would have been better to try to settle these issues legally without resorting to civil disobedience?
