Companies shed permanent staff as effects of lockdown felt

There is more evidence of the impact coronavirus is having on the jobs market.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics released today show the headline unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.9% in the three months to April.

But other indicators suggest a much bleaker picture is unfolding.
