Concerns over disadvantaged children facing unfair treatment in GCSE and A-Level results

The nail-biting wait for GCSE and A-Level results will have an added surreal quality this August, as pupils hear what grades they will get for exams they did not sit because of the Covid-19 lockdown.

England’s independent qualifications regulator, Ofqual, has had to create what it hopes will be a fair system but some headteachers have expressed concerns that children from disadvantaged backgrounds might not be treated fairly.
