Conditions at Wetherby Young Offenders Institution condemned as inadequate

Almost 900 improvised weapons have been found in just one year, at a prison where youngsters aged 15 to 18 are being held.

Along with the increasing drugs and illicit mobile phones – rising violence at Wetherby Young Offenders Institution is leaving staff struggling to cope.

There are around 160 inmates at the West Yorkshire institution, held in conditions which its independent monitoring board has condemned as inadequate and unacceptable.
