Conditions in youth detention in England and Wales ‘frightening’, says Chief Inspector of Prisons Charlie Taylor

A damning new report on children in custody by HM Inspectorate of Prisons has warned that young offender institutions in England and Wales are becoming more violent than adult prison, with young offenders spending way too much time locked up on their own.

The Ministry of Justice say they’ve put in place a whole series of reforms, including recruiting a specialist youth justice workforce.

We spoke to the Chief Inspector of Prisons Charlie Taylor, who led the report.
