Councils in England to get emergency £500 million to tackle funding crisis

Councils in England will be given an emergency £500 million from the Government to tackle their funding crisis. Communities Secretary Michael Gove announced the new cash after Tory MPs threatened a rebellion, if councils were forced to make drastic cuts to essential services like social care, in an election year. But councils say what they really need is an end to “short term” measures.
