Covid boosters rolled out early in England care homes

People in care homes in England started receiving their Covid boosters today – a month earlier than planned following the spread of a new variant.

It’s known as ‘Pirola’ and while it has not been classified as a variant of concern, scientists say it carries a high number of mutations.

The most recent data from the UK health security agency shows infection rates continuing to climb – though hospital and intensive care admissions have stayed relatively stable.
