Covid restrictions come into force in Madrid as cases soar

The government’s scientific and medical advisers today compared the UK with other European countries which have seen a sharp rise in cases.

In the Spanish capital, Madrid, pressure is once again mounting on hospitals dealing with a surge in Covid cases, with over 31,000 infections recorded across Spain in the last four days.

Partial lockdowns began in and around Madrid today, and local authorities have asked for the army’s help in policing them.

While in France, the city of Lyon has joined other French regions in imposing tougher restrictions.
