Daley tests the pool he hopes will bring him Olympic glory

British diver Tom Daley and his team-mate Pete Waterfield were delighting fans at an Olympic test event on Thursday, in the pool where they hope to bag a synchronised diving medal this summer.

The pair have been prevented from training together as much as they might have liked due to Waterfield being injured, and in the qualifying rounds of the FINA diving world cup on Thursday morning they got through, but with a struggle. Their place in the finals later in the day was only secured thanks to an impressive final dive.

“It wasn’t our best performance by any means”, Daley conceded, “but the thought that we dived like that and finished sixth and qualified for the final is comforting.”

The photogenic sportsman has been the focus of much media attention, drawing the displeasure of his disciplinarian coach.

Last week Russian Alexei Evangulov, the performance director of British Swimming, warned Daley that he was risking his olympic medal chances unless he cut down on his media commitments.

In response, Daley said that he already refused ninety per cent of media requests. However he has found time to become the face of Adidas, Nestle and Mini.
