Dame Maggie Smith, legend of stage and screen, dies aged 89

The beloved British actress, Dame Maggie Smith, has died at the age of 89. A legend of stage and screen, she was well-known for her prominent roles in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey.

But it was her performance in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie that won her international fame, as well as an Oscar. The Prime Minister has praised her as “a true national treasure”.
