Spring cannot be cancelled. Not according to the artist David Hockney at least, who is about to open a new exhibition at London’s Royal Academy, It celebrates renewal and the arrival of spring.
Surrounded by blossoming trees as he remained housebound during the pandemic in Normandy with no people to get in the way, Hockney has been extraordinarily prolific and captured the uplifting life and colour of the new season with more than a 100 works created on his iPad.
Even the catalogue is measured to remind the viewer how small the device is. We went along to meet him via a link from Normandy ahead of the exhibition opening later this month.
