Do we need a culture shift in the way we approach death in the UK?

Health and Social Care Editor

People across the country are dying in ways they have not planned for – that’s if they have planned at all.

The charity Compassion in Dying says we need a culture shift in the way we approach death in the UK.In polling shared exclusively with Channel 4 News 1 in 4 people said that the last close relative or friend who died received medical treatment they would not have wanted.

They also found more than 4 in 5 people people would want to prioritise their quality of life over living longer in the last years of their life.

But as doctors have told this programme, there also needs to be better training for clinicians dealing with patients at the end of their lives.
