Donald Trump wears a face mask for the first time in public – as Florida confirms 15,000 new cases of coronavirus

Florida has confirmed more than 15,000 new cases of coronavirus – the state’s biggest daily increase since the pandemic began.

Infections are continuing to soar in large parts of the United States – with a growing number of governors making face coverings compulsory in public places.

Even President Trump wore a face mask in public for the first time, on a visit to a military hospital – declaring “I’ve never been against masks”.

And America is not alone – there’s been a record increase in global cases too – up more than 230,000 in 24 hours.
